SUMMARY:Our Nesting Neighbors: bird watching walk
DESCRIPTION:  \nSpring is an active time of year for birds as they are nesting in trees\, bushes\, cavities\, and open terrain. During this leisurely stroll in the park\, we’ll be on the lookout for our resident and migratory nesting birds as diverse as Western Bluebirds\, Tree Swallows\, Wilson’s Warblers\, Killdeer\, California Quail and Woodpeckers. We will delve into migration\, calls\, songs and nesting behavior. \nSharon Barnett enthusiastically shares her passion and sense of wonder with others\, especially children.  Well known to children as “Sharon Heron”\, Sharon has taught environmental education for over 15 years in Marin County and internationally. She has volunteered with many organizations including The Marine Mammal Center\, SPAWN\, and served as Director for Marin Audubon Society and The River Otter Ecology Project. Sharon teaches science at Marin Country Day School and is the Hiking Marin Trails Instructor for College of Marin.  She designs and leads programs for Point Reyes Field Institute\, Marin Nature Adventures and volunteers for Point Reyes National Seashore Association. Sharon is the 2011 Terwilliger Environmental Award winner. www.MarinNature.com \n  \nTime: 9:00 – 12:00am (lunch at 11:30\, see “what to wear/bring” below) \nDistance: Approximately 2.5 miles and 100 feet elevation gain \nAge: All ages (young birdwatchers 6 and older are welcome) \n  \nWhat to wear/bring: \no  Wear layers- it could be cool\, mild or hot! \no  Sturdy hiking shoes with good tread \no  Snacks \no  Lunch: we will spend the last 30 minutes enjoying a picnic lunch \no  Water: 1 quart \no  Sun hat and sunscreen \no  Fleece or wool hat (in case it is cool) \no  Hiking poles help with balance (optional) \no  Binoculars- we’ll have a few pair small binoculars to lend out. \nAnd Sharon will have a spotting scope for everyone to share. \no  Camera (optional) \no  Change of shoes/clothes for after the hike \n  \nMeeting Place: Back Ranch Meadows Parking Lot \n$5.00 entrance fee (after you park): machines take credit cards or exact change. \nFREE for holders of an Annual Parking+Trail Pass. \nRegistration is necessary.
