DESCRIPTION:February is the perfect month for a hike in China Camp. The brisk air\, the views\, and\, yup\, the first wildflowers are coming out as well! Join Friends Of China Camp’s guided hiking program on selected Saturdays in February at China Camp State Park. Lead by Naturalist Harold Hirsch. Hikes range from easy to moderate\, ranging from 1.5 to 2 miles.  \nWhen: February 17th \nTime: 9:30am \nWhere: Knight Drive Gate.  Meet at 373 Knight Drive in San Rafael \nIntermediate.  2 miles. Topic: Vistas of the San Francisco Bay \nPlease bring appropriate hiking gear\, warm clothing water\, snacks\, sunscreen and a hat.  If you are bringing more than 5 people\, please RSVP to chinacamp.programs@gmail.com or (415)488-5161\, otherwise you can just show up!

SUMMARY:Village Talk: Miwok History and Songs
DESCRIPTION:  \nJoin Teresa Salzman\, archeologist and acting director of the Museum of the American Indian as she shares with us a glimpse of Miwok life past and present. This will be a hands-on experience and discussion where we will explore Miwok history and traditions in the art of basketry\, music\, and toolmaking. \n  \nThe Coast Miwok Native Americans have occupied this land for thousands of years\, long before the arrival of Europeans and other immigrants. Their ancestors lived as hunter-gatherers\, dependent on the bounty of the landscape for sustenance\, and today many continue to live within their ancestral territories in the Federated Indians of Graton Rancheria.  Teresa Salzman is an archaeologist who has lived and worked in Marin for almost 50 years.  She has been the curator/director of the Museum of the American Indian in Novato CA since the early 1970’s. \n  \nDate:  Saturday Feb 17th\, 2018     \nLocation: Lower Village Museum\, China Camp State Park \nTime:  5:30pm -6:30pm \nAdmission: Members- Free \n                     Non-members-$5 \nSpace is limited and reservations are required.  To reserve\, send email to: chinacamp.programs@gmail.com\, or call (415) 488-5161.
