SUMMARY:Moonrise Astronomy Night—CANCELLED
DESCRIPTION:DUE TO WEATHER CONDITIONS\, THIS EVENT HAS BEEN CANCELLED. Who better to celebrate the spring equinox with than with our nearest and dearest celestial friend\, the moon! Overlooking the sparkling waters of San Pablo Bay\, we will convene at China Camp Point and enjoy a clear view of the “Worm moon” as it rises over the East Bay hills. This month’s moon is believed to get its name from earthworms which often emerge after spring rains. Some experts say it’s more likely refers to types of beetle larvae\, not earthworms\, which emerge in spring. \nHike lead and natural history docent Harold Hirsch will share fascinating facts about the science\, cultural significance\, and history of the moon and the spring equinox. We’ll finish with a sweet treat: all the fixins for s’more “moon pies.” This stationary\, wheelchair-accessible\, family-friendly event welcomes all ages and abilities.  \nWear warm clothing for chilly evening weather.  \nSpace is limited; registration required. Cancellations notified via email.  \nDate: Saturday\, March 23 \nTime:  6:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. \nLocation: China Camp Point parking lot \nDifficulty: easy (we will be staying in one location; no hiking) \nCost: free to FOCC members; $5 donation appreciated for non-members \nAge: All ages welcome; under age 18 must be accompanied by a parent or responsible adult \nADA accessible: yes \n  \nREGISTER NOW \n  \nPhoto: full moon by Harold Hirsch
