SUMMARY:Nature Walk: Secrets of the salt marsh
DESCRIPTION:A salt-marsh harvest mouse\, described as the one of the cutest critters ever (we agree)\, nibbles on a branch of pickleweed. Diminutive black rails\, marsh birds no bigger than your fist\, scuttle along a channel. Egrets poke\, baby fish swim\, and Ridgway’s rails cackle at dusk. \nCome learn about these and other remarkable animals and their amazing adaptations for living in our tidal wetlands. China Camp protects one of the finest expanses of original salt-marsh wetland in the Bay Area\, and FOCC volunteer Harriot Manley will shed light on some of this ecosystem’s fascinating features. Come learn why salt marsh wetlands are critically important\, especially in the face of sea-level rise. \nBinoculars recommended. Space is limited; registration is required. Cancellation notified via email. \nDate: Saturday\, May 9\nTime: 10 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.\nLocation: Turtle Back Trail trailhead\nDifficulty: easy (mostly flat\, 1-mile round-trip walk)\nCost: free to FOCC members; $5 donation appreciated for non-members\nAges: 10 and older; under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or responsible adult\nADA accessible\n \nRESERVE NOW
