DESCRIPTION:Shu Wei’s Revenge by Jackson Fahnstock\nPlease join Jackson Fahnstock as he discusses his background and his novel Shu Wei’s Revenge at Book Passage in Corte Madera on Saturday May 12 at 7:00 P.M. Shu Wei is a seventeen year old boy growing up in Shanhou\, China in 1898. His misadventures cause his family to emigrate to San Francisco’s Chinatown. Caught up in the underworld he must struggle to survive and to regain his family’s honor; his own future hangs in the balance. \nMr. Fahnstock’s years of travel as an architect to Asia and Southeast Asia served as the genesis for the book. A book signing will follow his reading and presentation. The book won a New York City Big Book Award and was a finalist in the 2015 William Faulkner Wisdom Creative Writing Competition. \nAll proceeds of this event will be donated to Friends of China Camp.

They sit at the heart of an internationally recognized biodiversity hotspot\, one of 35 areas globally that are the last refuges and essential habitat for populations of native species. Marin County’s land managers needed more data about trends in biodiversity and wildlife occupancy to better understand the status of wildlife populations. So they developed a creative solution: a grid of hidden cameras in the wildlands. DESCRIPTION:Wild Geese Sorrow  \nA Discussion with Author and Poet  \nJeffrey Leong \n\nJoin us for an evening talk with Jeffrey Leong\, author of the new book “Wild Geese Sorrow”: \n  \nThe deep anger\, sorrow\, and loneliness of Chinese immigrant detainees held at the Angel Island Immigration Station between 1910-1940 are revealed in a new book of translations by East Bay poet and writer Jeffrey Thomas Leong. The first new translations in almost 40 years\, the poems of Wild Geese Sorrow: The Chinese Wall Inscriptions at Angel Island are sequenced to narrate the incarceration experience: the shock of arrival\, lengthy stays from a week up to two years\, humiliating medical exams\, political outrage\, and for some\, deportation. DESCRIPTION:Summer is here and guests are coming from all over to camp\, hike\, and bike China Camp!  Let’s meet all of our visitors with a sharp and spiffy looking park.  The historic shrimping village  is always in need of love and care\, and we are just the ones to do it right.  This love and care will be in the form of removing unwanted vegetation around the historic buildings and repairing fencing and trail tread on the Village feeder trail. \nIs this a family workday event?  Of course\, but volunteers must be a minimum of 14 years of age.  Lunch will be provided.  Limited free camping will be available for registered volunteers. \nTo sign up\, please go to the CalParks website and look on the calendar for the link to register.   A few days prior to the event\, registrants will receive an email from CSPF with information on where to meet\, what to bring\, what to wear\, and other important details for that day.

DESCRIPTION:August’s Village Talk: \nThe Beauty and Mystique of Butterflies\nJoin Dr. Peter Oboyski\, curator and manager of the Essig Museum of Entomology at UC Berkeley as he discusses the biology and diversity of butterflies. There will be specimens of local butterflies to view and information about how to attract butterflies to your yard. \nButterflies are some of the most conspicuous insects we see when hiking and gardening\, yet they still hold many mysteries. Some are territorial over a few square meters of habitat\, while others migrate great distances. Some are common pests\, while others are endangered\, and one local butterfly has gone extinct.
