SUMMARY:King Tide Hike: Flooded with Science and Seawater
DESCRIPTION:Ring in the New Year with a beautiful short hike and lots of science at China Camp State Park! Join scientist and educator Sarah Ferner from San Francisco Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve for a short walk near the edge of China Camp’s tidal salt marsh during one of the highest high tides of the year – a King Tide. Nature should put on a quietly beautiful show as the rising tide slowly floods the marsh. We will learn about the marsh\, scientific research occurring there\, and what king tides can teach us about sea level rise. Bring your camera to participate in California King Tide Initiative’s citizen science photo monitoring. Registration required. \n\nDate: Monday\, January 1st \nStart time: 10:30am -12:30 pm \nAND \nDate: Tuesday\, January 2nd \nStart time: 11:30 am-1:30 pm \n\nCost: Free. \nWhat to be prepared for: Please dress appropriately for weather\, including walking on trails that will likely be wet or muddy and standing still in windy conditions. This event is primarily for adults. \nWhat to bring: Camera\, binoculars \n\nMeeting place: Turtleback Hill Nature Trail within China Camp State Park. Please enter the Park from the East (Peacock Gap/Downtown San Rafael). If N. San Pedro Rd is flooded\, the meeting location will be moved east of the flooding. SUMMARY:Park Champions Work Day
DESCRIPTION:Even without much rain\, the grasses and shrubs have managed to encroach on our trails. We could use your help to trim them back to restore the passable width of the trail. \nBring your work gloves\, a we-can-do-it attitude and a smile. Lunch will be provided. Limited free camping is available to registered volunteers. Minimum age is 14. Any volunteer under 18 years old must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. \nTo participate\, please register on the California State Parks Foundation website. They will send you an email with the details about where to meet\, what to wear and other logistical information. Your registration helps us plan for tools\, supplies and\, of course\, lunch. \nCancellation announcements will be posted on the FOCC website homepage.
