Speaker Series: Oyster research at China Camp

April 15 @ 5:30 pm - 6:30 pm

The Olympia oyster (Ostrea lurida) is the only oyster native to the West Coast. Scientists from NOAA’s National Estuarine Research Reserve (NERR) and their collaborators have been monitoring oyster populations at China Camp State Park and areas around San Francisco Bay for many years.

NERR senior research technician Anna Deck will share what scientists have learned about patterns in oyster populations from this long-term monitoring effort. Anna will also discuss how her team uses water-quality monitoring to understand these patterns. Come learn about this important research, and why these little bivalves are so critical to the health of the bay.
