While our park’s name reflects the Chinese shrimping village that once boomed here over a century ago, this land has been home to a wide range of human inhabitants, including indigenous Coast Miwok, Spanish colonizers, Mexican land grantees, and cattle ranchers. For this special Heritage Month event, join Marcie Miller of the Marin History Museum and Friends of China Camp naturalist Harold Hirsch for a 1.5-mile “walk through time.” We’ll unravel the history of the region’s human inhabitants and their impacts on the land, such as Native American middens, once-proposed development, and nearby rock quarries. Come enjoy the beauty of China Camp and learn local history on this easy walk.
