Autumn Seed-Seeker Hike

October 14, 2023 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm

Free

With fall’s return, we will seek (but not collect) seeds as plants prepare for winter. Join this naturalist-led hike and talk about the different strategies that plants use in producing seeds—from prickly pods to edible nuts—all geared towards increasing the odds of perpetuating the species’ success. Learn about the natural history of seeds, and how they adapt to local conditions, such as wildfires and drought. Dress in layers for the crisp, cool fall weather.

SPECIAL BONUS: Come an hour early (9 a.m.) to enjoy a chance to catch this weekend’s annular eclipse. Special viewing boxes and safety glasses will be available to watch this rare “ring of fire” event—only partial in our area but still quite a spectacle, as long as the clouds stay away.

Space for events is limited so sign up now. Cancellations will be notified via email. Questions? Email programs@friendsofchinacamp.org or call (415) 456-0766.
