Birding walk: Stop, look, and listen

May 16 @ 8:00 am - 10:00 am

Want to learn more about birds, not just by using your eyes, but your ears, too? This time of year, Bewick’s wrens burr, Western flycatchers whistle, swallows chitter—it’s the noisy time of year at China Camp. With a host of species deep into nesting activities, male birds are singing out territorial calls, parents are calling out to chicks and their mates, and much more. For this week’s walk, we’ll be listening while we look, keying in on distinctive patterns and sounds to help us identify who’s who, and what they’re making a racket about out here in the park.

Naturalist Jerry Coe will also incorporates keys to identifying birds in the field, and how best to use binoculars and scopes in the field. Come with your curiosity; all birding levels welcome. Bring binoculars if you have them.
