FULL MOON HIKE: The Buck Moon

Join us for this popular China Camp hike to catch the monthly moonrise. This month’s full moon, named because it rises in the season when male deer are just starting to show off their velvet-covered antlers, will hopefully be a summer stunner (if it’s not fogged out).
Starting our hike at dusk, we’ll climb the ridge above the Ranger Station, we’ll be on the lookout for the park’s numerous bucks. Once darkness falls, we’ll look to the east toward Mt. Diablo to watch the Buck Moon rise, casting a glow across the bay. On our way back down, we will keep our eyes peeled for nocturnal creatures, such as coyotes and (cross your fingers) owls.
