CANCELED. New Year’s sunrise hike: say hello to 2026
Ring in the new year in a spectacular way. Join naturalist Harold Hirsch as he leads our annual New Year’s Day sunrise hike—a heart-pumping and fun way to welcome 2026.
Start with an invigorating ascent to one of China Camp’s premier vista points, then, at 7:26 a.m., watch the sun as it peeks over the horizon on the first day of the year. If you wish, bring a short message or poem to share at the vistapoint. Hot chocolate will be served after the hike, and you can roast marshmallows.
Space is limited; registration required. Cancellation notified via email.

Time: 6:15 a.m. – 9 a.m.
Location: LOCATION CHANGE: the meeting location is now the Ranger Station parking lot, 101 Peacock Gap Trail, San Rafael.
Difficulty: moderate (4 miles round trip with some climbing)
Cost: free for FOCC members; $5 donation appreciated for non-members
Ages: all ages welcome; under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or responsible adult
