Village Talk: Miwok History and Songs

February 17, 2018 @ 5:30 pm - 6:30 pm

Join Teresa Salzman, archeologist and acting director of the Museum of the American Indian as she shares with us a glimpse of Miwok life past and present. This will be a hands-on experience and discussion where we will explore Miwok history and traditions in the art of basketry, music, and toolmaking.

The Coast Miwok Native Americans have occupied this land for thousands of years, long before the arrival of Europeans and other immigrants. Their ancestors lived as hunter-gatherers, dependent on the bounty of the landscape for sustenance, and today many continue to live within their ancestral territories in the Federated Indians of Graton Rancheria.  Teresa Salzman is an archaeologist who has lived and worked in Marin for almost 50 years.  She has been the curator/director of the Museum of the American Indian in Novato CA since the early 1970’s.
